After 92 years of troubled history, the National Palace in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is being razed this week. Images of the crippled palace, which serves as the official office of the president and his staff, were emblematic of the 7.0 quake that hit the island nation on January 12, 2010.

Current President Michel Martelly stated that reconstructing the palace – if it were possible – was not a priority for the country, as at least 350,000 people remain without homes in Haiti. Government business is now conducted in trailers and smaller buildings that were built around the palace.
